A randomized controlled trial of the effectiveness of combinations of ‘why to reduce’ and ‘how to reduce’ alcohol harm-reduction communications

​This study compared different ways of encouraging people to reduce their alcohol intake. The study has found that telling people alcohol causes cancer makes them want to drink less, and encouraging them to count their drinks can help them to do it.

The randomised trial recruited 8,000 adults who broadly represented the Australian drinking public and asked them to complete a series of three online surveys over a period of six weeks.
