The NSW Government commissioned KPMG to evaluate
the effectiveness and efficiency of the Medically Supervised Injecting Centre
in meeting the service objectives during the trial period (June 2007 to April
2010).
The evaluation concluded the service was successful in meeting
objectives, including decreasing drug overdose death, providing a gateway to
drug treatment and counselling, reducing problems with public injecting and
discarded needles and/or syringes and reducing the spread of blood borne virus
transmission.
