What is opioid substitution therapy?

​Opioid substitution therapy involves replacing street drugs like heroin or other prescribed opiates (such as OxyContin or Fentanyl) with methadone or buprenorphine. The prescribed methadone or buprenorphine will often be dispensed daily as a single dose.
