New resources aim to make alcohol and drug treatment easier to understand

13/02/2026

A new collection of brochures and videos has been released to give a clearer picture of what alcohol and drug treatment involves and to support people considering taking the first steps toward making changes in their substance use.

Hosted on the Your Room website, the resource series was developed to demystify alcohol and other drug treatment. While there are many different types of treatment available, there are some common parts to treatment. The materials are designed to give clear information on these, provide practical guidance and empower people to be active participants in their own treatment.

Real stories at the centre

A key highlight of the series is hearing directly from people with lived and living experience of treatment. Speaking from their firsthand experiences, they provide powerful advice to people at all stages of their treatment journey, aiming to build confidence and hope.

Clear answers to common questions

The brochures and videos offer straightforward, accessible information about the treatment system. Topics include:

  • Information to help people feel more confident and informed
  • Explaining what the different parts of treatment are trying to achieve
  • Describing what the first appointments might involve
  • Building confidence to asking questions throughout treatment

Supporting people at every stage

The new resources recognise that everyone's journey is different. Some people might just be starting to look into their options. Others might be ready to begin treatment, or they may already be connected with services and looking for extra support.

By offering information in both written and video formats, the series aims to reach people in ways that feel most useful and comfortable. The content has been developed with care, acknowledging that people's experiences with alcohol and other drugs are varied and personal, and that people feel better supported when they're treated with respect and understanding.

Accessible to the public

All brochures and videos are available free of charge and can be viewed or downloaded directly from the Your Room website. The platform brings together trusted information about alcohol and other drugs, harm reduction, and health services, making it a central point for people seeking guidance.

Understanding what treatment involves is often the first step toward feeling ready for change, and these new resources are here to make sure people have the information they need as they think about what comes next.
